Clonakilty came out on top in this final at Castle Road on Sunday. The Sars girls knew they had a tough task entering this match as Clonakilty had already annexed the county junior ladies football title this year. Sars got off to a good start when Rita Crowley pointed. Clon powered into the game and worked two goals. Shirley Crowley repsonded with a goal for Sars on the stroke of half time, leaving the score 2-8 to 1-5. Sars playing with the wind in the second half kept working hard. The goal that Sars needed never came as Clonakilty’s packed defence held tight.
The Sars girls can feel proud of their achievements this year, having steped up in grade from junior. The good performances during the year of underage players such as Isobelle Kearney, Rita Crowley, Aisling Whooley, Orlaith Keane, Yvonne O’Callaghan, Laura Barry, Emer O’Connell, Nicole Hickey, and Mairead O’Farrell means that the future looks bright. Hopefully the girls can continue their rise and go one step better next year.
